A citation network analysis of the rural dementia literature

Background There are key differences between urban and rural areas in terms of dementia risk, diagnosis, treatment, service availability utilization. Despite the unique important context areas, there has been relatively little research on areas. A broad yet comprehensive understanding existing literature is an step grounding future field. Method In June 2021, we conducted a citation network analysis articles dementia. Articles were identified using Web Science inclusion criteria included having “rural” “Alzheimer’s” or “dementia” title. Result Three hundred analyses. Using time-adjusted number citations as measure prominence, 142 (47.3%) had cited more than 10 times. An revealed twelve clusters. We found no patterns among clusters based publication year but that publications tended cite others originating countries close geographic proximity. Text three sub-themes keywords: long-term care studies, epidemiological community-based caregiver services with few last sub-themes. Conclusion findings this help elucidate literature. First, authors publishing citing older newer at same rate, suggesting field actively growing. Second, many contributing base still tend their own country those them, missed opportunity learn global community. Third, dominating across sub-themes, which suggests need interdisciplinary research.
